"Bronx Dreamscapes" is an immersive visual journey that transports viewers into whimsical worlds within their own borough. As a Bronx-based artist for over seventeen years, I draw inspiration from the local landscape along the Grand Concourse, exploring the fascinating interactions between urban and natural environments.
Through a series of captivating triptychs on canvas, each measuring 12" x 90", I celebrate the Bronx's art-deco architecture, historical landmarks, and diverse nature. My aim is to challenge the long-standing stigma the Bronx has faced since the 1970s and present it as the beautiful, diverse, and stimulating place it truly is.
By combining digital collages with my acrylic, ink, and gouache paintings, I create magical wonders that invite viewers to embark on a visual journey through the Bronx. The experience includes remarkable stops, such as the Andrew Freedman Home, the elegant High Bridge with stunning views of the Harlem River, and the poetic Lorelei Fountain at Joyce Kilmer Park. The majestic Bronx County Court House, historic Lowe’s Paradise Theater, revitalized Bronx River, captivating New York Botanical Gardens, and breathtaking Bartow-Pell Mansion are among the other destinations.
Throughout these dreamlike cityscapes, I integrate the Bronx's rich wildlife, featuring Red Winged Blackbirds, Snowy Egrets, Great Horned Owls, Saw Wheat Owls, Red-Tailed Hawks, Red-Eared Slider Turtles, Monarch Butterflies, and Black Swallowtail Butterflies. Additionally, the vibrant Swamp Rose, majestic Lacebark Elm Trees, and the rare Corpse Flower add natural splendor to the artworks.
The shifting elements within the paintings mirror the functioning of dreams and the subconscious, fostering wonder, curiosity, and a deeper exploration of the Bronx—the greenest borough of New York City.
"Bronx Dreamscapes" serves as a captivating time capsule, celebrating the enchanting energy of the Bronx while intertwining history, architecture, the natural environment, and boundless imagination. Through this artistic endeavor, I hope to inspire a fresh perspective on this remarkable borough and its undeniable charm.
